How to file cyber complaint
Step-by-step guide to reporting online fraud, harassment, impersonation, phishing, and cyber crime in India.
Cyber complaints can be filed online through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. For financial fraud, speed matters: report quickly, preserve evidence, and contact your bank immediately.
Step-by-step
- 1Collect screenshots, URLs, phone numbers, account IDs, transaction IDs, emails, and chat history.
- 2For financial fraud, call your bank or payment app support immediately and ask them to block or mark the transaction.
- 3Go to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and choose the relevant complaint type.
- 4Enter accurate personal details, incident details, suspect details if known, and evidence.
- 5Save the acknowledgement number after submission.
- 6If there is immediate danger or blackmail, also approach the local police station.
Evidence to preserve
Do not delete messages, accounts, emails, call logs, or transaction alerts. Take screenshots with date and time visible where possible. Save files in original form too.
Common cyber complaints
Typical complaints include UPI fraud, investment scams, job fraud, loan app harassment, fake profiles, cyberstalking, phishing, identity theft, and intimate image abuse.
After submitting
Keep checking your acknowledgement. If money is involved, keep following up with the bank, payment platform, and police cyber cell. Keep all communication in writing.
