Aadhaar Authentication and Update Rights

Residents can update Aadhaar details and should not be denied essential services without lawful process.

🗣️ What this means for you

You can update your Aadhaar demographic and biometric details through authorised channels. If authentication fails, the service provider should use alternate identity verification where required by law or scheme rules, especially for essential welfare benefits.

Step-by-Step Action Plan

1

Use only UIDAI-authorised centres or the official UIDAI portal for updates.

2

Keep the update request number or acknowledgement slip.

3

If a welfare benefit is denied due to authentication failure, ask for alternate verification in writing.

4

Complain through UIDAI or the relevant scheme grievance channel.

5

Preserve SMS, denial notices, and screenshots.

⚖️ The Relevant Law

Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (2016)

Section 3 and Section 7

"Every resident shall be entitled to obtain an Aadhaar number by submitting demographic and biometric information. Aadhaar may be required for receipt of subsidy, benefit or service funded from the Consolidated Fund of India, subject to the Act."

⚠️ Punishment / Penalty

Unauthorised disclosure or misuse of Aadhaar information can attract penalties under the Aadhaar Act and related rules.
